Internships at Safe Families for Children of Central Indiana

internshipsAn Internship with Safe Families for Children is a great way to serve God’s Kingdom, get hands-on experience and earn college credit.  Below you can learn more about the types of internships available and how to apply.

Current Opportunities:

Safe Families for Children has current internship opportunities in the fields of social work, communication and business.  All interns need to be dependable, self-motivated, and effectively work independently and in team-based environments.

Internship for Social Work majors:

Social Work IntershipInternship Description:

Work Schedule:  20 – 30 hours with some evening and weekendsdepending on case load.

Social work interns at Safe Families for Children receive real-life training and experience by working with lower income families in time of crisis (Placing Families) and coordinating the efforts of volunteer families to meet the bio family’s physical, emotional and spiritual needs.

Our primary focus for social work interns is to expose students to as much family coaching as possible, interns will also complete many of the following tasks:

  • Providing family coaching to placing and volunteer families
  • Helping children and volunteer families adjust with new placements
  • Arranging temporary placement of children by connecting volunteers with current needs
  • Connecting placing families with needed resources and support (e.g. food stamps, Section 8 housing, child care, etc.)
  • Transporting children and placing family members
  • Assisting with intake
  • Helping with community outreach events
  • Misc. other duties

Internship for Communication Majors

Internship Description:

Work Schedule:  Minimum of 10 hours per week. This internship is available for credit and non-credit seeking students.

Communication interns at Safe Families for Children engage with the community and volunteer families through marketing campaigns, research, grant writing, fund raising, community outreach and misc. other duties that benefit our families.

Internship for Business majors:

Internship Description:

Business InternWork Schedule:  Minimum of 10 hours per week. This internship is available for credit and non-credit seeking students.

Business interns at  Safe Families for Children will assist in the organization, administration and  organizational and financial aspects of managing a non-profit.
Responsibilities include the following:

  • Assisting in the development of financial plans
  • Fundraising
  • Assisting in the strategic planning of volunteers, children hosted and churches
  • Misc. functions that would help our families

  1. Letter of Interest: Describe your interest in applying for an internship position with Safe Families, including internship objectives/desired outcomes, desired semester to complete internship and required hours.
  2. Current Resume including applicable experiences and contact information for your academic adviser
  3. Copies of practicum evaluations (if applicable)
  4. Current transcripts
