Safe Families for Children

Meet Our Leadership Council

Safe Families for Children of Central Indiana (SFFCCI) is excited to announce we have selected our Leadership Council! What is a Leadership Council? A team of Christian men and women external to SFFCCI that will surround us in prayer, support and accountability. They will provide leadership advice, fundraising support and innovative, strategic thinking. The Leadership Council will work closely with SFFCCI’s Director, Lanna Blanchard, as we move forward as a church-led, volunteer-driven movement in 2018.

Get to know our Leadership Council by reading their profiles below, which include their connection with Safe Families and/or why they felt called to serve (listed in alphabetical order):

Debbie Baldwin is the former President of Kaleo. She has been a long-time supporter of Safe Families and is grateful God has called her to be on the Leadership Council because Safe Families lovingly cares for vulnerable children while also helping placing parents take important steps to improve their lives. Debbie’s favorite verse is Colossians 3:17, “And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him.”

Brent Clodgo is the Executive Vice President of Presidio. He and his family have served as a host family since 2012. He is excited to serve on the Leadership Council to help Safe Families in our mission to assist children in need. Brent’s favorite verse is Romans 8:11, “And if the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you, he who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies because of his Spirit who lives in you.”

Chris Haynes is a Financial Services Professional at MassMutual Midwest. He and his wife, Tara, felt called to engage in the Kingdom work of serving children and families in crisis, just as God has brought us into His family and showed us love and acceptance. His family had the honor of being the first host family of Safe Families for Children of Central Indiana in 2008. Since then, Chris’s family has hosted 16 children in their home. Chris’s favorite verse is Galatians 6:9, “So let’s not get tired of doing what is good. At just the right time we will reap a harvest of blessing if we don’t give up.”

Mindi McMillan owns a family business, Colonial Village Labradoodles. She first became involved with Safe Families as a host family with her husband and children. They have hosted numerous children after hearing God’s call to orphan care. Mindi loves Safe Families’ goals of reuniting the family, fully embracing the entire family by working with the placing parents as well and continually pointing them to the ultimate answer of what they need most in their lives — a relationship with Jesus. Mindi’s favorite verses are Romans 8:38-39, “For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, 39 neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

Marcus Thomas is a Colonel in the United States Army. He says he is involved with Safe Families because God’s Holy Spirit is “involved” in him. In a world where families are falling victim to lies and false teaching, he desires for him and his house to serve the Lord by serving families in need. Marcus says,
“Being a part of Safe Families provides me and my family opportunities to walk with God and to demonstrate Jesus’ love in very practical ways.” Marcus’s favorite verse is John 3:16, “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” He loves this verse because the longer he lives life this side of heaven, the more “having eternal life with the Lord” calls toward his heart.

Jerry Wiley is a Partner at KPMG LLP. He initially connected with Safe Families by hosting children with his wife. He joined the Leadership Council because he wants to contribute in any way he can after he has seen the impact it made on him and everyone else he has seen involved in this work. Jerry’s favorite verse is Isaiah 40:31, “But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.”

Jeff Wittman works for the Indiana Department of Education as the School Social Worker and Foster Youth Specialist. He previously worked for Safe Families for Children and during that time his heart was captured for serving God by seeing all of those engaged with Safe Families. Working with those who served and seeing their heart and passion for Jesus made Jeff want to dig deeper in his relationship with and service to Jesus. Jeff has now joined the Leadership Council to honor God through supporting the organization and blessing others as he has been blessed by Safe Families. Jeff’s favorite verses are John 15:1-2, “I am the true vine, and my Father is the gardener. 2 He cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit he prunes so that it will be even more fruitful.”

We want to thank each Leadership Council member for agreeing to volunteer their time to ensure we serve families in a God-centered way! Thank you for sharing your time and God-given gifts!
